The Republican Report

With the resignation of our Chair, Christine Butler, Vice Chair Bob Sutton will be the acting Chair until the election to fill the vacancy is held.  In the interim, your Board will continue to function as usual and with that we have some announcements.

First, the primary purposes of the Broward Republican Executive Committee are to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Elect to office qualified Republicans
  2. Foster loyalty to the Republican Party
  3. Promote an informed electorate through political education
  4. Increase Republican registration
  5. Seek qualified Republicans to become candidates for local, county, state, and federal offices
  6. Promote the election of Republican candidates in each General Election
  7. To uphold the principles of freedom, equality and justice on which the Republican Party and the government of this nation is founded, and as set forth in the Constitution of the United States and the State of Florida

We will continue promoting these objectives as we prepare for next year’s elections.

Second, the BREC board values the input of each and every member and believes in the right to free speech.  In an effort to create an atmosphere where every voice can be heard, the Chair will appoint a Grievance Committee under RPOF Party Rules of Procedure (Rule 22 – Settlement of Grievances) as endorsed by our legal counsel.  This will provide a venue for grievances and personal issues to be acknowledged and heard without using the short time available for BREC business at our general meetings.

Third, our next meeting will be on Monday, September 28th at Deicke Auditorium in Plantation and will feature the Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida – Blaise Ingoglia.

Fourth:  Hold the date!  On Friday, October 16th from 7:30 until 9:30 a BREC fundraiser will be held at the Doris Italian Market in Coral Springs, FL .  All announced Republican candidates are invited.  The two confirmed speakers are U.S. Senate candidate Todd Wilcox and Joshua Thifault of Turning Pont USA.   The event ticket price is $39.95 and will include a full buffet of authentic Italian cuisine, an array of artesian cheeses, sampling of over 100 wines, a $10 credit toward a wine purchase that evening, and special in-store pricing.  A separate event announcement will follow.

And finally, the election for the next Chair of BREC will be held at our regular meeting on Monday, October 26th.  Details will be announced at the September meeting.

BREC Update

Due to a previously reserved event at Deicke Auditorium, BREC will not be holding the regular monthly meeting for June 22 at the Deicke location.  Instead, we have reserved the Herb Skolnick Center, located at 800 SW 36th Ave, Pompano Beach. This is a one time, temporary change for the June meeting only.   Please mark your calendars and reorient your GPS to the Herb Skolnick Center for JUNE 22.

Plan on attending a FREE  Evening With Dr. Ben Carson, Candidate for President in 2016 on SATURDAY, JUNE 13 from 6-9 PM, sponsored by Marina Max, at 750 Federal Highway, Pompano Beach. Invite your Republican and Independent friends!  Refreshments to be provided by Marine Max.  Attendance is FREE; however, donations to BREC will be accepted.    The Rally will follow a private VIP Reception for Dr. Carson from 3-5 PM at the home of Barbara Capelletti in Coral Springs.

You will not want to miss the June 22 BREC meeting as BREC will present REV. RAFAEL CRUZ, director of Purifying Fire Ministries in Dallas, Texas and father of Presidential Candidate Senator TED CRUZ of Texas.

Rev. Cruz fought against Communist tyranny in Cuba, for which he was arrested and tortured.  He fled Cuba in 1957 at age 18, eventually settling in Texas.  Rev. Cruz is a bold advocate for churches and pastors to engage politically to stand up against ever-increasing assaults on religious freedom in America.

The RPOF has established a Standing Committee for Faith-Based Engagement to target and recruit Florida Christians who did not vote in the last two elections.  52% of Republicans are Conservative Christians.   Only a third of the total 89 million professing Christians across the U.S. are registered voters.  This represents a tremendous voter registration opportunity and mandate for Republicans because we cannot win in 2016 without the Christian base,  who have for too long been taken for granted.

Congratulations to Conservative Republican LENNY CURRY, the new Mayor of Jacksonville, elected Tuesday, May 19.   Lenny,  the former Chairman of the Republican Party of Florida defeated the incumbent Democrat Mayor  Alvin Brown 51% to 49% for a key Republican victory and beginning of the REPUBLICAN STRONG WAVE of 2016!

Congratulations also to attorney, Republican, and new Broward County Court Judge NINA DI PIETRO, who was recently appointed by Governor Scott to fill a judicial vacancy!

Congratulations to RICO PETROCELLI, elected by BREC membership on April 27 as Republican State Committeeman to complete the term of resigning Ryan Anderson!

Your Chairman, State Committeeman Petrocelli and Alternate Chad Lincoln attended the second quarterly RPOF Meeting in Orlando on May 15-16.    RPOF Chairman Blaise Ingoglia emphasized that the road to the White House goes through FLORIDA, and has launched several initiatives aimed at readying RPOF and Florida for Victory in 2016:

  •  New Logo & Website
  •  Project 29 – Aimed at delivering Florida’s 29 electoral votes to the Republican nominee for President
  • NationBuilder – Roll out of digital infrastructure for use by all Florida County RECs
  • Victory Offices – Open more victory offices in every county that will be coordinated with RNC and National Campaigns, with greater input and control at local REC level
  • Voter Registration – RPOF initiatives and standing committees established to engage Faith Based voters, Minorities, Women, Next Generation Republicans and Veterans.
  • Workshops, Seminars and Speakers – Providing resources to REC Chairmen and State Committeemen/women for voter registration, fundraising, social media and community engagement

Mark your calendars for OCT 22-24 in Orlando for PRESIDENCY 6, the RPOF Presidential Debates!    The RPOF opted not to conduct a straw poll at this Event as in the previous five Events, in order to encourage participation by all Candidates. Florida boasts four Presidential Candidates for 2016 – JEB Bush, Marco Rubio, Dr. Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee.   The first Florida Presidency straw poll was won by Ronald Reagan in 1979!

The 2016 Florida Primary will take place on Tuesday, MARCH 15, 2016, and the RPOF has adopted a Winner Take All approach, so that the Primary winner will receive 100% of Florida’s delegates to the Republican Convention rather than a proportionate number based on Primary votes cast.  The RPOF Rules were also amended to increase the number of delegates per CD Caucus from 2 to 3 (with 3 Alternates).

The 2016 Republican Convention will be held in Cleveland, Ohio on July 18-21, 2016.

 Your Chairman,

 Christine A. Butler
